Playing for Scotland in tonight’s Euro 2024 opener against Germany would be ‘the stuff of dreams’ for Albion midfielder Billy Gilmour – especially if it means an opportunity to come up against Toni Kroos.
Gilmour, who celebrated his 23rd birthday earlier this week, looks almost certain to win his 28th cap against the hosts when the tournament kicks off in Munich and it’s a chance he is determined to grab.
“If I did get the opportunity to walk out at the opening game at the Euros it would be amazing, it's the stuff of dreams really,” he said. “The group is tough, but we want to test ourselves and see what we can do.”

Gilmour believes the success he enjoyed for Albion last season has put him in a good frame of mind for his second major tournament. He made 36 appearances in all competitions last season including all eight of our games in the Europa League.
“I've been enjoying my football,” he added. "It's probably the first season I've played back to back in so many games. I learned, stayed strong waiting for the opportunity and this season I took it. I just need to keep pushing myself and try to get the best out of myself every day.”
Gilmour grew up watching Real Madrid star Kroos and is looking forward to testing himself against one of the best midfielders in the world.
“I think he's unbelievable. Just to watch on TV he’s unbelievable, he makes the simple things 100% perfect," added Gilmour. "If I do get the opportunity I'll be excited to test myself against one of the best midfielders in the world, it would be great."
