Elisabeth Terland had a couple of opportunities in both halves to pull one back for Albion.

Albion finished their WSL campaign with a 5-0 defeat at Arsenal on Saturday and ended the season in ninth place.

While Mikey Harris's team had a number of opportunities throughout the match, Albion couldn't handle the Gunners' clinical edge.

Alessia Russo opened the scoring after 17 minutes with a well-taken effort from just inside the box, but Albion nearly produced an immediate response when top scorer Elisabeth Terland headed narrowly wide before seeing an effort deflect onto the crossbar.

Albion seemed on the verge of finding an equaliser, but instead Arsenal extended their lead seven minutes after going in front. Maria Thorisdottir’s pass when Albion tried to play out from the back was pinched by Russo who rounded keeper Sophie Baggaley and rolled the ball into the net for her second.

Madison Haley was beaten to the ball by Sabrina D'Angelo as Albion pushed for a goal.

The England forward went close to a third when she got the better of Guro Bergsvand before curling her shot just wide while Katie Robinson and Terland both went close for Albion with the former chipping an effort just past the post before Terland's powerful strike was gathered at the second attempt by Sabrina D’Angelo.

Bergsvand ensured Russo wouldn’t get her hat-trick just after the restart when the Norwegian put in a stunning tackle in the Albion box as the England forward was ready to pull the trigger, while Terland missed a great chance at the other end when played in on goal by Madison Haley. The Albion forward was forced slightly wide by Leah Williamson and her attempt to sneak a low strike into the bottom left corner was pounced upon by D’Angelo.

Kim Little had the chance to put the game beyond reach for the visitors when Jorelyn Carabali sliced down Steph Catley in the box, but the Arsenal skipper hit the post from the resulting penalty.

It mattered little though as Vivianne Miedema – on as a substitute for her final Arsenal appearance – slotted in to make it 3-0, before Carabali’s attempted clearance off the line hit the post and crossed the line for an own goal.
